The advancement in swimsuit technology has most women checking out the latest catalogues and searching for that perfect bikini that accentuates their body shape and sizes. Though it seemed like retailers are now pressured to come up with more products just to suit the individual needs of the customers, this seemed like a win-win situation as both parties benefit from the modern bikini.

The question is: How much can someone spend in search for that perfect bikini? The answer lies on whether there’s enough budget to spend for it.
The prices of bikini range from $5 to as much as thousands of dollars. The main point of this is that the wearer must be comfortable with what she wears because it is useless to buy something expensive yet it could not be enjoyed to the fullest extent.

Ever wondered why the daring swimwear is called bikini? Well, this term was cooked up 63 years ago by French fashion designer Louis Reard who at that time displayed a two-piece swimwear at the Piscine Molitor.

On July 5, 1956, Reard showed to the world the first bikini swimwear. It was also him who called these swimwear line “Bikini” which was named after the Bikini Atoll located in the Pacific. The said atoll served as a test site for nuclear weapons way back in 1946.

Reard explained at that time that he wanted the launch of the bikini swimwear to be as explosive and popular as the nuclear tests being done in the area.

The French designer started as a car engineer but later shifted to lingerie designing after he started running his mother’s boutique in Paris. He was assisted by fashion designer Jacques Heim who has been developing beachwear at that time.

The bikini at that time would today be perceived to be conservative since the bottom  was large enough to cover the navel. But back then this cut even caused controversy among models who protested wearing these.

Eventually, the bikini swimwear gained support from the masses and has inspired designers to come up with more daring cuts. Today the bikini comes in many different sizes and shapes, in brands like panache and oneill.

Now, this is an event one should not dare miss.

By February next year, Australian fashion designers will present their respective swimwear lines at the Sanctuary Cove in Queensland. The event will run for almost a week.

According to Simon Lock, IMG Fashion Asia-Pacific Managing Director: “We are playing to the strength of the Australian swimwear and also to the strength of swimwear as a growth market around the world.”

“Even in these tough economic times, swimwear seems to still be buoyant,” he added.

The event dubbed as Australian Swim Fashion Week was said to be modeled over the successful swimwear fashion week that took place in Miami, Florida. The Australian event aims to encourage retailers to buy the swimwear lines and distribute it in major areas in the country and neighboring Asia-Pacific countries.

“Miami Swim has a great casual chic to it and that’s what we’re trying to do. The shows will only be on in the evenings, so during the day the buyers can do their appointments in a casual way,” Lock revealed.

Several high profile designers have already signed up for the event. Several resorts within the Asia-Pacific rim were considered by the organization decided that it’s best to hold it in Australia.
