Swimwear company Jantzen celebrated its 100th anniversary by going retro in its fashion line during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami Beach, Florida. The retro women swimwear look attracted all of the spectators as models strutted the items.

Five women’s swimwear designs from the past have been reinvented and were unveiled as part of the company’s Heritage Collection.

The fashion designers created newly designed swimwear based on the retro styles of the swimsuits. It definitely was a huge hit among the spectators that it only conveyed one simple message: retro designed swimwear is back!

The woolen swimsuits that got popular in the 1920s have been redesigned to have Swarovski crystals adorned at the front with matching cape. The 1940s line which started the trend on bikini has been reinvented to emphasize a woman’s hourglass figure.

Aside from the presentation of these retro women swimwear designs at the fashion show, the Wolfsonian-Florida International University museum also staged a gallery featuring the swimsuit. The items will be at the museum until October 11 for public viewing. The show is called “Beauty on the Beach: A Centennial Celebration of Swimwear.”

Swimmer Rebecca Adlington, a British Olympian, voiced out her opposition on the new generation of swimwear that promises faster performance and record-breaking results in major events.

On the report published by Daily Telegraph, Adlington said that using this high tech swimwear constitutes unfair advantage.

For the past few months, swimsuits such as Speedo swimwear caused controversy following the sudden influx of new records in the past swimming competitions. There are expectations that these records will be overtaken once more in the upcoming World Swimming Championships in Italy.

Arlington has won the 400-meter and 800-meter events in the Olympics and despite the growing popularity of the high tech swimwear, she’ll still stick to traditional swimwear.

However, it has been noted that Arlington herself used Speed swimwear’s LZR Racer suit in last year’s Beijing Olympics. However, the said swimwear still passed FINA, swimming’s global governing body, standards.

On June 22, FINA released a list of approved swimsuits. One swimwear manufacturer TYR protested the results since four of its designers were not approved by the governing body. As of current development, a French court dismissed the manufacturer’s lawsuit solely because the matter at hand is already out of France’s jurisdiction.

A beach bikini photo shoot held at Santa Cruz, California failed to beat the world record by a large margin.

The Possibility Advocate Society, the organizers of the event, revealed that there were less than a hundred participants in the photo shoot. The world record for the most number of bikini-wearing individuals at one area has been set at 1,983 participants which means that there were 1,900 lesser participants at the shoot held at Cowell Beach.

Despite not achieving a milestone at the event, Possibility Advocate Society Founder Virgil Robinson said that they are still glad that everyone had a good time. The founder also said that they will attempt to break the record once more in the future.

Robinson’s society is a networking group that gathers resources to aid a person’s dreams become a reality. Last March 30, the group successfully created a world record for the most number of people with afro-wig during a shoot.

The photo shoot, which took place last weekend, also invited men who would dare enough to wear skin-tight swimwear such as Speedo. A fundraising activity also took place where the proceeds were given to those who are in need.

For body conscious women, summertime is a dreaded time of the year especially when it involves going to the beach.

With all the adverts calling for sudden weight trimming options, some women just don’t have the time to go to the gym for exercising. Crash dieting can be dangerous for the health as well. Good thing someone thought of a simpler solution with the creation of tankini swimwear!

The best thing about the tankini swimwear is that it feels like a two-piece swimsuit despite its one-piece appearance. Basically, a part of the stomach is covered by the swimsuit but it still shows the flattering figure of curvier women.

Before rushing to the swimwear store to buy this summer outfit, make sure that the tankini swimwear complements your body. There are so many choices these days so you can always mix and match.

Ask for assistance if you are having difficulties in finding the best tankini swimwear. There are lines that concentrate on covering the stomach area and those that cover the bottom part. Identify your problem areas so that you’ll get the best outfit. Have a memorable summer!

Ever wondered why the daring swimwear is called bikini? Well, this term was cooked up 63 years ago by French fashion designer Louis Reard who at that time displayed a two-piece swimwear at the Piscine Molitor.

On July 5, 1956, Reard showed to the world the first bikini swimwear. It was also him who called these swimwear line “Bikini” which was named after the Bikini Atoll located in the Pacific. The said atoll served as a test site for nuclear weapons way back in 1946.

Reard explained at that time that he wanted the launch of the bikini swimwear to be as explosive and popular as the nuclear tests being done in the area.

The French designer started as a car engineer but later shifted to lingerie designing after he started running his mother’s boutique in Paris. He was assisted by fashion designer Jacques Heim who has been developing beachwear at that time.

The bikini at that time would today be perceived to be conservative since the bottom  was large enough to cover the navel. But back then this cut even caused controversy among models who protested wearing these.

Eventually, the bikini swimwear gained support from the masses and has inspired designers to come up with more daring cuts. Today the bikini comes in many different sizes and shapes, in brands like panache and oneill.
